The Academic Foundation exercise is used to demonstrate how, by missing certain fundamental concepts in earlier grades/school years, a student’s academic progress can be negatively impacted in subsequent years, leading to a drop in grades and/or confidence.
This guide outlines the exercise and it should be used in conjunction with the accompanying activity (see Academic Foundation - Tool).
You should keep paper copies of the Academic Foundation tool in your consultation pack and complete it as an exercise with the family during the consultation.
